Easy, Fabulous, and Unisex Beanie Pattern

Winter is approaching here in Canada. We live in the Maritimes, our winters are cold but the air is humid, so you always feel wet and cold… yay (I say sarcastically of course!). Last year slouchy beanies were super popular and this year I expect will be the same. As someone who often has long hair I also know the struggle of bunching up a bun and trying to make it fit/look nice inside a winter hat. Bun hats/beanies have become a go to for many and this pattern also allows for your hair to pop out the top with no alterations!

Without further adieu; let me introduce you to the most easy, fabulous, and unisex beanie pattern I have come by to date! This is the Beanie by Filles a Maman. I have blogged previously about her Stylish Slipper pattern and Lou’s Mittens so if you are looking for more, fantastically designed patterns, check them out. This designer is no longer designing for herself, she now works for Jalie Sewing Patterns. Both companies patterns come in both French and English and are all Canadian designers. You can also check out the Filles a Maman blog here.

I am not going to go into much detail here because I don’t want to give away her design but let me tell you a little something. I sewed this buffalo plaid one up in less than an hour from uncut to sewn and I wasn’t rushing! If you sew these to sell it would be absolutely fantastic for batch sewing as well. What about gifts!? Christmas presents for everyone! So easy, fabulous, and unisex this beanie pattern has it all, with simplicity being it’s best feature. You could sew them for teachers, family and friends in no time.

The top is twisted, so if you wear your hair up one day, you can still wear it down the next without feeling a draft or having a hole at the back or top of your cold weather hat!

Sew the top opening closed by hand in a few seconds for the men on your “to sew for” list, or not, doesn’t much matter honestly. You could also add a pom to the opening to get another, different look.

You know how much you love that perfectly slouchy look but lots of the patterns out there just don’t give that easily? Well this pattern even has that problem solved by adding pleats to the outside layer. You could leave them out but it takes a few extra seconds for a much nicer look.

Fold up the bottom edge and sew it down for extra ear warmth, especially for those little ones. This pattern is so fantastic! And just check out how perfect that slouch is!

Specifics

  • This is a PDF pattern, not a paper pattern that will be mailed to you. You will download it (safely) to your computer then print the pages and tape or glue them together to get your pattern pieces.
  • Layers function has been used, so you can print single sizes if you prefer.
  • Pattern is made for knit fabrics with a minimum of 30% stretch.
  • Sizing goes from XXS, a 18.5″ head circumference, to XL, a 24″ head circumference. Stretchier fabrics, 70% stretch or more, will also result in a larger hat.
  • An overlocker certainly makes for sewing this pattern easier and faster but it is definitely not required.

So go now and grab this pattern, I know you won’t regret it!

You’re welcome 😉
